a knowledge of anatomy and how the body works. Future healthcare tickets provide a deep insight into how the human body functions and offers the chance to dissect real specimens learning GCSE, A Level, BTEC, Nat5 and Scottish Higher's biology for the national exams.
Ther future healthcare programme includes scrub hire, full PPE and all clinics 1-6. as seen below.
The COVID-19 outbreak and consequent school closures have meant that all events scheduled this academic year have been postponed. We are working with host schools to reschedule these events later into this academic year or into 2020-2021. We will follow government advice around this. All previous ticket holders will be contacted soon with further details regarding transferring tickets. We are unable to give a timeframe to this due to the imposed lock down. CLINIC 1 PATIENT CARE AND INFECTION CONTROL
Students will meet three patients that have been involved in a road traffic, complete a full handover with the paramedic, triage the patients injuries and prepare for theatre.
Including pre-surgical infection control procedure on the patient, using iodine based antimicrobials. Once completely sterile the patient will be gowned and draped using real surgical drapes.
CLINIC 2 ANAESTHETICS
You will learn the roles of the central and peripheral nervous system as well as how neurotransmitters GABA & Glutamate at the synapse to transmit action potentials across neurons. With the lab equipment provided, you will make up a solution of Propofol before calculating the dosage for your patient based on their mass.
CLINIC 3 COMMUNICATING HUMAN ANATOMY
Understand the Anatomical Position, a very important system we use in medicine and healthcare to navigate the structures of the human body.
CLINIC 4 HEAD & NECK
As our patient has a head injury, you will be presented with a head specimen where you will dissect out the brain and spinal cord. In the dissection you will dissect the cranial meninges as well as the cranial nerves including the optic nerve.
We will cover all of the major anatomical structures of the Central Nervous System (CNS) as well as the somatic, autonomic, sympathetic and parasympathetic systems.
CLINIC 5 THORACIC CAVITY
(AVAILABLE AT THE BOX OFFICE)
General anaesthetic shuts down the electrical activity of the nervous system which stops the diaphragm from working. Using a real intubation tube you will intubate a real thorax, placing the tube into the trachea to establish an airway and inflate the lungs.
Moving to the heart… We begin with the structure of the ventricles and vessels before looking at the electrical conductivity of the heart.
CLINIC 6 ABDOMINAL-PELVIC CAVITY
Students will have a rare and exclusive opportunity see a complete digestive system from oesophagus to anus.
Gaining an in-depth understanding of the anatomy of the Gastrointestinal Tract (GI) as well as the pathologies that affect it including Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
NUPE EVENT TIMINGS 4.00PM - 6.00PM
NUPE is the National UCAT Practice Exam, aimed at all students aged 14-19 who are considering a career in medicine or dentistry here in the UK or further afield. We highly recommend you attend at least one practice exam event before sitting the UCAT exam. Some students attend on an annual basis to ensure they have built up the skills and confidence to pass with a good result –increasing their chances of selection at the UK’s best universities. This can be purchased in addition to a Future Healthcare place or alone.
